Well, we had a productive weekend, as you can see below. We have all of the HardiPanel siding on, and the crew we hired to finish the metal siding is almost finished. They have some oopses to fix, but for the most part it looks pretty good.
Before I get a bunch of emails asking about the HardiPanel on the garage, let me just go into that now. We kicked around several colors for the HardiPanel and could never decide. After several months of back and forth on colors we picked a light gray for the HardiPanel on the house, and a deep, burnt red for the HardiPanel on the garage. The funny thing is that we both HATE the color red! We were talking one day and we both sort of apologetically said, "I'm thinking of a color for the HardiPanel and I don't want you to get mad at me." Then Kenny said that he had been thinking that the whole place is so neutral, and he thought we needed a bit of color. I said that was funny because I was thinking the same thing. He said he was afraid to tell me what color he had been seeing in his head because it's a color I hate. Then I said the same thing! Then we both said we had been thinking a deep, dark, burnt red. It was too coincidental not to go with it, and actually we figured it's just paint, so if we hate it, we'll just repaint it. BUT we LOVE it!!! Now I wish all of the HardiPanel on the whole house was that color, but I like the light gray too, so it's all good. So, if you come on a tour of the house and you don't like it, too bad because we think it's pretty spiffy. We're not sure how our neighbor feels about it, but we don't really care about that either!
In the pic above, you can see that we finished a great deal of the trim this weekend. We put on facia and soffit, and Kenny and his brother put on all of the gutter. We have a few more soffit pieces to put on, and some downspouts
You can see that everything is still a little dirty - once everything is finished the whole house will get a serious hose down.
One more update from this weekend: Baby Birds. Ok, so we had 2 birds' nests in the soffit areas of our house. Both had hatchlings. Luckily one of the nests turned out to be empty by today. We had been holding off the trim as long as possible, hoping that they would hurry up and leave. The other nest had 4 babies still there, so we gloved up and removed the nest. We placed the nest materials and babies on a piece of cardboard and placed them under some nearby bushes. We kept one eye on them all day and thankfully the mom and dad found them and began feeding them in their new location after a little while. Hopefully, they won't be bothered by the other wildlife and will make it through the next few days and nights. They looked pretty big and flapped their wings quite a bit, so we think they were pretty close to leaving the nest like the other family of babies already had. At least we tried. Ah, now back to Monday to start over again . . .
